Hello, in times of Corona, it is not easy to manage your everyday life, so many things that you usually like to do are falling away. For me, it is swimming that I really miss… to make good use of the time anyway, I now go jogging (which can never replace swimming, as it is simply not joint-friendly in the long run!), ride my road bike, and do various home workouts. I am sure you are already wondering what this has to do with today's recipe!! Well, when you suddenly have a lot of time, you also have time to try out new creations in the kitchen. Today, I came up with an extremely delicious spread, in my opinion, that works perfectly as a pre- or post-workout meal. It consists of only 3 ingredients and is super quick to make.

Figs, ginger, and water!

Figs are a fantastic fitness food, as they are very rich in minerals, nutrients, and fiber. They also provide a lot of energy and have one of the highest alkaline (basic) values of all foods. In addition, figs have antibacterial properties, stimulate digestion and metabolism, and are very satisfying and keep you full for a long time due to their high fiber content.

Ginger is rich in vitamin C, magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, sodium, and phosphorus. Ginger contains essential oils and, like figs, has antibacterial properties and thus contributes to a healthy intestinal flora. In addition, ginger also has antiviral properties, thus inhibiting the multiplication of viruses!!! So what food could be better suited at the moment? Ginger is also known for its antiemetic effect, which means it protects against vomiting and nausea. The pungent compounds stimulate blood circulation and the circulatory system and promote the production of gastric juices, saliva, and bile.

In my opinion, figs and ginger are two really valuable foods that can work wonders, especially in combination. That is why the fig-ginger spread recipe quickly made it onto my list of favorite recipes! It is also soooooo delicious and so versatile.

Here are a few examples of how I use the spread:

Open jar with reddish-brown fig spread and wooden spoon from above
  • On homemade raw banana bread or carrot cake
  • As a topping on smoothie bowls
  • As a dip for fresh or dried fruit
  • As an ingredient in raw cakes or desserts
  • Mixed with coconut or cashew yogurt
  • As a filling for baked apples (prepared in an air fryer)

So, now finally to the recipe!

For 4-6 servings

Fig Ginger Spread

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Total time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 10 dried figs
  • one 2-3 cm piece of ginger
  • 1 cup of water (possibly a little more or less, depending on the desired consistency)

Preparation:

  1. Put the figs, water, and ginger into a high-performance blender.
  2. Cut the remaining 2 figs into small cubes and fold them into the mixture, fill into clean glass jars, and store in the refrigerator.
  3. Keeps for approx. 10 days in the refrigerator (unfortunately not in my case, as I always eat it beforehand!), can also be prepared in large quantities and frozen without any problems.
